Bag On Valves

For certain kinds of products, the content and the propellant
must be kept separate; in some cases the product must
be dispensed in whatever position the can is held, from upright
to upside down.

To meet these requirements, dual-compartment systems
were developed, consisting of a valve on which a flexible,
multi-layer bag containing the product is mounted.

The propellant, liquid gas or compressed gas (nitrogen, air),
is contained inside the can, outside the bag.

Dual-compartment systems are suitable for use with gels, shampoos and other technical, pharmaceutical and cosmetics products.

Coster's dual-compartment solutions are known as BOV
(Bag-On-Valve) systems.

The bag is expressly designed to enable high drop withstand.

To prevent detachment of the bag from the valve after repeated drops, Coster improved the method used to attach the bag
to the valve, by introducing a patented polyethylene ring welded
to the multi-layer film at the point of juncture with the valve.

The 4-layer (one in polyamide) film bag, and an exclusive, patented valve-bag seal ensure high impermeability: the process of sealing using a valve body in POM resin rather than a polyethylene body is much more effective, and the resulting high impermeability makes the Coster BOV system particularly suited to pharmaceutical and cosmetics applications.

The Coster BOV system offers another significant advantage: both the product and the propellant can be filled through the valve, the product into the bag and the propellant in between the bag and the can.

The system can be used with standard cans, so the same machines, with minor adjustments, can be used to fill cans equipped with either standard or BOV valves.

Coster BOVs permit content utilization up to 99%. Coster BOV valves are available in nine different versions, offering varying flow rates suitable for a broad range of applications. A variety of actuators is available for sprays, gels and other viscous products. All materials, including bag and seal, comply with FDA regulations regarding food contact.

Coster has established new facilities dedicated to the production of BOV valves. The factories are built to the highest production standards with optimal quality systems.
